[16:17]<+camerongray> Seems like quite a few in CH are now really pissed at DB
[16:18]<@BC_Programming> why is that
[16:18]<+camerongray> He was a complete knob to me, others sided with me
[16:18]<@BC_Programming> oooh buttery
[16:18]<@BC_Programming> pastebin
[16:18]<@BC_Programming> I DEMAND
[16:18]<+camerongray> haha
[16:19]<@BC_Programming> also I now have almost every show I'd want to watch on my new 4TB drive and it's still a teensy sliver of used space
[16:20]<+camerongray> http://pastebin.com/ShPs7tGz
[16:21]<+camerongray> Followed by: http://pastebin.com/pVHFr9B7
[16:23]<@BC_Programming> "<Kodiac> home pcs are also easilly hackable because they dont keep up with the baddies"
[16:23]<+camerongray> lol
[16:23]<+camerongray> Yeah
[16:23]<@BC_Programming> is that what malicious software is called now, 'baddies'?
[16:23]<+camerongray> Look at the end though, that was dick-db
[16:24]<@BC_Programming> still reading :P
[16:24]<+camerongray> I'll probably make a forum thread though
[16:25]<+camerongray> Sure you could join in on that :P
[16:25]<@BC_Programming> weren't you suggesting VPS's from the start?
[16:26]<+camerongray> Yeo
[16:26]<+camerongray> Yep!
[16:26]<+camerongray> Think it was because I dared to mention a physical system
[16:26]<@BC_Programming> yeah only he's allowed to do that
[16:26]<+camerongray> You know, on the line about "If you are intent on a physical system"
[16:27]<@BC_Programming> and how dare you customize your advice for their needs! away with you
[16:27]<@BC_Programming> the second link is awesome
[16:27]<+camerongray> Yeah
[16:27]<+camerongray> Think i should make a thread
[16:27]<+camerongray> Like directly mention DB's attitude problem
[16:28]<@BC_Programming> lol
[16:28]<@BC_Programming> "and those who Criticise the size of the organisation I work for , should not quote the size of the UNI systems"
[16:28]<+camerongray> Was about to say that
[16:28]<+camerongray> Makes no sense
[16:29]<@BC_Programming> the difference is absolutely everything you have said over time is consistent with you being in UNI, everything he's said is only really consistent if he was a janitor
[16:29]<+camerongray> First there is nothing that that conjunction matches up with
[16:29]<+camerongray> Secondly, I've maybe mentioned the uni systems in passing, but never said I work on them!
[16:29]<+camerongray> Well, I use them, but I don't manage them
[16:29]<@BC_Programming> you mentioned the UNI servers with SPARC for comparison as to how much power would be needed for the chat
[16:29]<+camerongray> I don't know much about them at all :P
[16:30]<+camerongray> Oh, never saw that relation there!
[16:30]<@BC_Programming> I think that was what he was referring to
[16:30]<+camerongray> Yeah, it's not even a uni system, that is something I manage as it's a student driven project
[16:30]<+camerongray> And the size of that is well, a rack that is about half full of old servers
[16:30]<+camerongray> In a cupboard
[16:30]<+camerongray> Hardly impressive
[16:30]<@BC_Programming> but you weren't using that as a "I know how to make chat servers because of X" it was more a "well the UNI get's away with pretty weak systems for their chat so you probably won't need much"
[16:31]<+camerongray> Yeah!
[16:31]<@BC_Programming> of course Pentium has to weigh in
[16:31]<@BC_Programming> I thought he was banned from CH ages ago
[16:33]<+camerongray> Nah
[16:34]<+camerongray> He's a complete idiot though
[16:34]<+camerongray> If I make a thread, you need to reply and add some of your extra wisdom :P
[16:34]<+camerongray> Windows Workspace for example :P
[16:34]<@BC_Programming> Oh man that was brilliant
[16:35]<@BC_Programming> I started writing a unlisted blog post on that but got bored
[16:35]<+camerongray> Ahh
[16:35]<+camerongray> Sure you can comment if I make a thread
[16:35]<+camerongray> Do you have any DB logs?
[16:36]<@BC_Programming> probably
[16:37]<+camerongray> Cool, if you find any send them my way :P
[16:37]<+camerongray> I don't really have time to rake through logs other than Calum and I's Facebook chat log :P
[16:37]<@BC_Programming> it would just be from the CH channel though
[16:37]<+camerongray> That's fine, that's the only place he puts them
[16:37]<+camerongray> Meaning any I've sent you
[16:46]<@BC_Programming> have I mentioned I find DaveLembke sort of annoying
[16:46] * Zuwer (Mibbit@mib-9196E61D.jetstream.xtra.co.nz) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[16:46]<+camerongray> Yep :P
[16:46]<jamer> yeah
[16:46] * Zuwer (Mibbit@mib-9196E61D.jetstream.xtra.co.nz) has joined #glitchpc
[16:46]<@BC_Programming> he was obsessing over the statistics about how SSD drives will fail after X number of writes
[16:47]<@BC_Programming> http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,141720.0.html
[16:48]<+camerongray> yep"
[16:48]<@BC_Programming> I mean wtf is that
[16:49]<@BC_Programming> I did have a reply drafted about how SSD's having a "upper limit" makes people paranoid for some reason, I have noticed that
[16:49]<@BC_Programming> "They only last X write cycles"
[16:50]<@BC_Programming> nobody ever obsesses over how standard hard drives can only be dropped once
[17:36]<jamer> *raises hand* ive dropped a hard drive before
[18:51]<Craig> They can be dropped more than once, it depends on the distance, and how much you want them to work after. :P
[18:54]<@BC_Programming> My point was simply that HDDs fail, I think obsessing over the "SSDs only have a limited number of write cycles" purposely ignores that for most usage scenarios even a reasonably reliable standard HDD is likely to fail before that, and even for SSDs they often fail for other reasons. Sort of like how HDDs don't last until the motor breaks but usually have other problems if they fail
[18:54]<Craig> Also, the upper limit is not a hard limit, but a possible limit. :)
[18:54]<@BC_Programming> yeah that too
[18:54]<Craig> I think the problem with SSD's is that when they fail, the usually fail fully. Which means NO RECOVERY. :P
[18:55]<Craig> Where as Plattered drives can have quite a bit done to them now. :)
[18:55]<Nat> Craig: that's why i backup like a madman
[18:56]<Nat> i should write a backup manager
[18:56]<Nat> so i can automatically do all the billion backups i have
[19:45]<@BC_Programming> heh, Malwarebytes Anti-malware is written in Visual Basic 6
[19:45]<@BC_Programming> that's just wrong somehow
[20:47]<Craig> :P
